Bully
2003
24 minute single-channel video
Bully consists of a series of interviews of women ages 25-40 about their experiences with the phenomenon of adolescent bullying. With this work Mallett continues her examination of youth culture, exploring the psychological effects that traumatic female relationships have on women, even as they grow beyond the adolescent years. At this moment the subject of “girl bullying” had garnered a lot of exposure in the media, from newspaper and magazine articles, to a two-part Oprah special, to the hit film Mean Girls. This work exists in both video and photo/text form.
